The Heineman Foundation, American Institute of Physics and听American Astronomical Society听announce Norman Murray, professor at the听Canadian Institute for听Theoretical Astrophysics,听University of Toronto, as the winner of the听2022听Dannie Heineman Prize for听Astrophysics.

The Heineman committee selected Murray 鈥渇or his deep theoretical insight into an exceptionally broad听range of astrophysical phenomena, including the dynamics of planetary systems, accretion disk winds in听active galactic nuclei, and star formation and feedback in galaxies.鈥

Asked for his reaction to the award, Murray replied,听鈥As I looked听over the list of past recipients of the听Heineman Prize,听I felt听both thrilled听and humbled.听I鈥檝e been fortunate to work in such an exciting period听of discovery in astronomy鈥.

鈥淚 have been听lucky听to听work听with so many great people. They听have taught and inspired me. I hope, in听turn, to听teach and inspire others.鈥

鈥淎IP congratulates Dr. Murray听for this achievement and his work听into many of the phenomena that听occur in our universe,鈥听said Michael Moloney, chief executive officer of AIP.听鈥淗is lifetime听accomplishments into the formation of planets and galaxies examines why these听galactic births occur where they do, when they do, and takes the next step about future formations.鈥
